The group stage draw for the UEFA Champions League takes place tomorrow afternoon, with five Algerian footballers qualifying for this stage of the competition.
Monaco are in pot 1 with Rachid Ghezzal, who got an assist last week on his debut for the club. He was also awarded the number 7 shirt, implying that he will have a strong part to play for the French side this season.
Pot 2 has Yacine Brahimi with FC Porto. The Portuguese team won the trophy thirteen years ago when Jose Mourinho was manager. Brahimi reached the quarter-finals with Porto a few seasons ago, and will be looking to achieve something similar this campaign.
Finally, pot 3 has two clubs containing Algerian footballers. After winning the league in Belgium, Sofiane Hanni will captain Anderlecht in Europe’s most prestigious competition this season.
Italian side Napoli are also in pot 3, following their 4-0 aggregate win against OGC Nice earlier in the week. Both Faouzi Ghoulam and Adam Ounas will be looking to make a strong impression for the Neapolitans. Ghoulam got an assist in the second leg of the qualifying match.
Good luck to all the Algerian footballers taking part. The draw begins at around 4.30pm on Friday the 24th of August.
