Following Algeria’s very disappointing two losses to Zambia, we take a look at five potential players who are eligible to play for Les Verts and could challenge for a place in the national team squad.
Houssem Aouar (19 years old, Lyon’s number 8)
Aouar was born in Lyon to Algerian parents and came through their youth teams. He made the breakthrough to Lyon’s main team last season, scoring for them in the Europa League. He coud be a real star for the Desert Foxes.
Yuri Berchiche (27 years old, PSG’s number 17)
Berchiche is a defender born in Spain, with a Spanish mother and an Algerian father. He has not played first team international football with neither Spain or Algeria, which makes him still eligible to play for the Desert Foxes.
Samy Kehli (26 years old, Lokeren’s number 10)
At 26 years of age, Kehli is just starting to make his breakthrough with Lokeren in the Belgian league. Following a similar career path to Sofiane Hanni, Kehli was born in France to Algerian parents. He has impressed so far this season, getting three assists in one match last month.
Amine Gouiri (17 years old, Lyon’s number 19)
Gouiri has been touted as the next Karim Benzema, and despite being only 17-years-old, Lyon have already given him the number 19 shirt which is very impressive.
Zinedine Machach (21, Toulouse’s number 7)
Machach is a young midfielder, who is half Moroccan and half Algerian. He scored the first goal of the 2017/18 season in France for Toulouse, and has not yet picked his international side.
