Algeria will drop five big players from the next squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier vs Cameroon, according to Algerian radio station Chaine 3.
Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani, Nabil Bentaleb, Adlene Guedioura and Carl Medjani will all reportedly not be included in Lucas Alcaraz’s 23-man selection.
The match away to Cameroon, which has no real meaning as both teams can no longer qualify for the World Cup in Russia next year, could be a decent opportunity to test out some new players in the national team.
It is understood that Mahrez, Slimani, Ghoulam and Bentaleb are all being rested as they are not deemed necessary to pick, however this could well be the end for both Guedioura and Medjani at international level.
The Desert Foxes lost to Zambia twice, home and away, which ended their chances of World Cup qualification. With Lucas Alcaraz still at the helm, he is showing that he is prepared to make bold decisions and drop the big names.
Rais M’Bolhi will still captain the team if he is fully fit, but Mehdi Jeannin will take his place in goal for the match if M’Bolhi has not fully recovered from an injury he picked up in Constantine vs Zambia.
