You may be unfamiliar with this rising star in Ligue 1, who plays for St Etienne. Rayan Souici is a 19-year-old midfielder who was born in France to Algerian parents.
Of course, the last youngster who played for St Etienne that was born in France with Algerian descent was Faouzi Ghoulam, who chose to represent the Desert Foxes at international level.
Souici has been at St Etienne since 2013, and made his first appearance for the club this season as a substitute against Nice in a 1-0 victory.
He wears the number 31 shirt for his club, but has yet to make his first start for the French side. However, tonight could see him in action with the promising talent included in Julien Sable’s squad to face Strasbourg on November 24th.
Last week saw Souici make the bench as a subtitute, but he was not used in a 3-1 defeat to Lille. Souici could have a fantastic future with the Algerian national team, and is one of many rising talents in France alongside the likes of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.
St Etienne are currently 7th in the top tier of French football, but young Souici has already been linked with Premier League clubs such as Leicester City.
