Algerian striker Ishak Belfodil has joined German team Hoffenheim from Standard Liege, signing a contract until summer 2022.
The Bundesliga club have just qualified for the group stage of next season’s Champions League, which surely puts the 26-year-old striker in pole position to be Algeria’s first choice striker.
Belfodil, who was born in Mostaganem, recently spent a season on loan at Werder Bremen which gives him experience in German football. He scored four league goals during this spell, although he spent a lot of time on the bench.
He came through the academy system in Lyon before making a move to Italy where he was signed by Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan.
Hoffenheim are currently managed by one of the most highly-rated managers in Europe, Julian Nagelsmann, who has been highly successful for the club.
The forward, who can also play on the wing, has two goals in 14 appearances for the Algerian national team, scoring twice in a win against Oman. We hope to see Belfodil make a return with Les Verts as a reward for his improved form this year.
