Algerian international Rais M’Bolhi will return to the national team squad for the two upcoming friendly games, according to assistant manager Meziane Ighil.
The goalkeeper has not been selected in the squad all year, but the Al Ettifaq shot stopper will be back in the squad for Les Verts after Ighil revealed the news on national television.
32-year-old M’Bolhi, in our opinion, is being recalled as Madjer tries to get some of the fans back on his side after losing two matches in a row against Iran and Saudi Arabia respectively.
Algeria have two matches coming up in June against Cape Verde (in Algiers) and versus Portugal (in Lisbon) as nations around the world prepare for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.
Ighil claims that M’Bolhi was previously not picked as he did not have a club at the time, which contradicts Madjer’s views that Chaouchi is the best goalkeeper in Africa.
Sofiane Feghouli and Rafik Halliche have also been tipped for a potential recall to the squad. With just 13 months to go until the Africa Cup of Nations, there are certainly some big decisions to be made for upcoming squad selections.
Since Rabah Saadane gave him his international debut, M’Bolhi has 55 caps for Algeria and won Man of the Match against Germany in the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup.
