Spanish side Atletico Madrid want to negotiate a deal for Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam, according to El Gol Digital.
The Algerian left-back has just missed the majority of last season through serious injury, and Atletico want to use this as a reason to lower the asking price for Ghoulam.
Napoli are holding out for over £43million and this is a price that Atletico are unwilling to pay for the 27-year-old. Diego Simeone wants to negotiate a deal for a much cheaper price.
The Europa League winners, who just finished 2nd in La Liga, are in the market for a left-back as Filipe Luis is expected to leave the club after a poor season.
Ghoulam is an exceptionally talented full-back, who is strong both defensively and offensively. He scored two goals and provided three assists in Serie A prior to the injury setback.
He was brought to Napoli by Rafa Benitez and is widely regarded as one of the best left-backs in world football. Whether he stays at Napoli or leaves for Atletico, Ghoulam is fulfilled with Champions League football.
Ghoulam also won the 2017 Algerian Player of the Year award and was presented with the trophy from Paolo Maldini at the annual ceremony in Algiers.
