Algeria suffered an embarrassing 3-2 defeat at home to Cape Verde and have now lost three matches in a row.
The Desert Foxes opened the scoring after just five minutes. Riyad Mahrez crossed a corner into the box and it was headed home by defender Ramy Bensebaini.
And just a few minutes after, an identical move saw Bensebaini have the ball in the back of the net again, but the Egyptian assistant referee correctly raised a flag for offside.
But after 15 minutes. Cape Verde scored a great equaliser. Awful defending by Algeria allowed Ricardo Gomes to turn, shoot and score. Algeria had five players around him yet gave Gomes so much space and failed to close him down.
The half an hour mark saw Algeria back in front, and it was another headed goal. A brilliant cross into the box by Yacine Brahimi and an even better finish by Baghdad Bounedjah.
Later in the first half, Algeria somehow failed to score. Yacine Brahimi’s free-kick was saved, Hilal Soudani hit the post on the rebound then Bounedjah’s tap-in was somehow not in the back of the net.
The second half saw Algeria hit the woodwork for the second time in the game, as Bounedjah with a header hit the post.
In the 62nd minute, the Desert Foxes hit the post for the third time as captain Nabil Bentaleb shook the frame of the goal with a great strike from outside the box.
However, Ryan Mendes levelled the scores in the 68th minute with a near post finish. And things went from bad to worse for the hosts soon after as Cape Verde took the lead after a mistake by goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi.
Islam Slimani came on, but it was too little too late and Algeria’s bad form continues.
