Rachid Ghezzal is set to leave Monaco this summer after a disappointing year at the French side.
The signing of Alexsandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow has all but confirmed the impending departure of the Algerian. There has been interest from the Premier League. Both Southampton and Leicester City have been linked in the past few days with the 26-year-old.
Having left the club’s training camp in Germany, Ghezzal has gone to finalise a move elsewhere and was absent for Monaco’s friendly game against Hamburg.
Ghezzal joined French side Monaco on a free transfer last summer but has failed to live up to the standards left by the outgoing Bernardo Silva. Monaco would therefore be able to make a rather large profit if they sell the player.
His brother, Abdelkader Ghezzal, played for Algeria at the 2010 World Cup. Rachid has one goal for the Desert Foxes, which came in 2016 against Ethiopia, whereas his older sibling has three.
Last season, he scored 2 goals in 26 league games for Leonardo Jardim’s side. Whether or not Rachid Ghezzal is good enough for the Premier League remains to be seen. Follow all of the transfer stories surrounding Algerian footballers this summer in English on DZ Football.
