Djamel Belmadi was confirmed as the new manager of Algeria, and now he can’t wait to get started. He spoke to the FAF about his new role as manager of the national team.
“In all honesty, I am excited. I feel the same pride and joy as when I first wore the Algeria shirt as a player The only difference now is in the level of responsibility that has become bigger and bigger than when I was a player. This new responsibility honours me and it motivates me.”
Having been linked with the job before, the 42-year-old spoke about why he was ready to take on the job now.
“I needed to polish my weapons and to prove myself before taking on such a huge responsibility. I think I am well equipped now that I have the necessary experience.”
Looking ahead to the future, he finally spoke about the upcoming tournaments.
“We were absent at the last World Cup in Russia and I suppose that it hurt a lot of Algerians. But before reaching the 2022 World Cup, we will have meanwhile two Africa Cup of Nations to play and qualification playoffs to begin with from September. So we will go step by step. Things will build as we go.“
