New Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi is already beginning work on his team by working on deals to call up Bilal Boutobba and Samuel Gigot.
Bilal Boutobba is a 19-year-old left winger who currently plays for Sevilla’s B team. He joined them after coming through the academy system at Marseille.
Born in France like many of the current Algerian team, Boutobba could be the successor to the left wing position after the days of Yacine Brahimi.
Boutobba made his debut in Ligue 1 for Marseille when he was just 16 years of age so he has bags of potential.
Samuel Gigot is a tall central defender who is 24 years of age. He was born in France to an Algerian mother, and now plays for Spartak Moscow.
He moved to the Champions League side this summer after being named as the Defender of the Season in Belgium with Gent. Algeria are desperate for central defensive options.
The rule to switch playing for countries was enforced by Algeria back in 2003, so long as you have not represented your nation competitively, now impacts world football.
These decisions by Belmadi are positive and a step in the right direction as he begins to imprint his style on Les Verts. We hope to see many more new recruits in the future.
