Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi has announced his first squad as head coach of the North African side for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gambia.
25 players have been selected, which includes Manchester City’s record signing Riyad Mahrez as the star name of the squad.
Rachid Ghezzal, who joined Leicester City in the summer, is also selected as well as Yassine Benzia who is on his way to Fenerbahce.
Hilal Soudani and Adlene Guedioura, the Nottingham Forest duo, have also been called up. Ryad Boudebouz, Sofiane Feghouli and Rais M’Bolhi are all recalled to the national team.
Alexandre Oukidja is called up for the first time, as is his Metz team-mate Farid Boulaya. There is also a first selection for Mehdi Tahrat who plays in the French second tier.
Not a single player from the Algerian League was selected, and there cannot be any arguments with that. There is no Ishak Belfodil, Adam Ounas or Ismael Bennacer due to lack of playing time at their clubs.
Algeria already have three points in their group after one qualifying game. The match takes place on September 8th at 4.30pm, and you can keep up to date with the Algerian national team in English on DZ Football.
