Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar looks set on becoming a full French international. The 20-year-old scored for France U21s last night but is yet to make an appearance for the senior team, however Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas is pressuring him into picking the French national team.
Aouar would be a brilliant addition to the Algeria midfield, and the youngster does regularly spend time in Algeria. However, it seems that he feels in order for his footballing career to progress then he will pick France.
Algeria have been in situations like this before, with the likes of Karim Benzema and Nabil Fekir also opting for the French. Whether or not the Algerian FA have to take some responsibility for not trying hard enough is another matter.
With brilliant passing ability and so much potential, a future star once again seemingly slips through Algeria’s fingers. Aouar has recently come out and said that he will announce his decision in the near future.
This may well be an error, considering the depth and quality of the French squad with the likes of Paul Pogba and Ngolo Kante in the central midfield. Algeria did make contact with him a few weeks ago but never progressed with their talks.
