Algeria are set to face Benin in their third Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Blida on Friday 12th October, with kick-off taking place at 8.45pm. You can follow the game live in English with DZ Football.
The two sides have met eight times previously, with Algeria winning six and drawing two meaning they have never lost against The Squirrels. Belmadi is taking charge of his first home match as manager of the national team and there is expected to be a large crowd inside the Stade Tchaker.
Both Algeria and Benin currently have four points from their first two matches with unbeaten starts to the qualification campaign. Algeria will be without the likes of Islam Slimani, Hilal Soudani and Ryad Boudebouz.
Benin’s star player is Huddersfield forward Steve Mounie, who played against Riyad Mahrez in the Premier League last month. Whoever wins this match will go top of the group. Algeria are unbeaten in 33 fixtures in Blida, which is an incredible record and hence why they moved venue from Algiers.
The last meeting between the two sides was back in 2013, when the Desert Foxes won 3-1 thanks to a brace from Slimani and a goal from Nabil Ghilas. Algeria however have won none of their last five games in 2018.
