Man City winger Mahrez starts for Algeria

Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez is starting today for the Algerian national team as they take on Togo in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Djamel Belmadi has handed two players their international debut, with defender Djamel Benlamri and midfielder Oussama Chita both involved for the first time in their respective careers.

Algeria are currently top of the group with seven points, but a loss will move them down into second place below Togo, who are captained by former Premier League star Emmanuel Adebayor.

There is no place for Rachid Ghezzal or Adlene Guedioura, who both play their club football in England. Former West Ham winger Sofiane Feghouli starts after impressing in the last game against Benin.

Youcef Belaili starts after winning the African Champions League with Tunisian club Esperance, and there are six Algerian born players in total in the line-up.

Three points for the Desert Foxes will seal their place at the tournament in Cameroon next summer, but anything less will mean it goes down to the final day in March 2019. You can follow the game live with DZ Football’s updates in English by following.
