Algeria face Qatar with a ‘local based’ squad on Thursday December 27th in what will be the Desert Foxes’ final match of a turbulent 2018.
The game kicks off at 12pm, and includes a squad of 18 players picked by Djamel Belmadi. 16 of the squad play in the Algerian League, whilst Baghdad Bounedjah (Al Sadd, Qatar) and Youcef Belaili (Esperance, Tunisia) have also been selected.
Both Belaili and Bounedjah are expected to start the game. They both started for Algeria against Togo last month in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Bounedjah has 58 goals for club and country in 2018, more than the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano, which has seen him linked with Leicester City.
Qatar previously faced Algeria in 2015, where Belmadi was actually managing Qatar and beat Christian Gourcuff’s Algeria side 1-0.
Back in May, Algeria’s local side lost 2-0 to Saudi Arabia in Spain ahead of the 2018 World Cup where Rabah Madjer was in charge.
Belmadi will be looking at which domestic based players could have the potential to get into his AFCON squad.
Qatar are using the game as a warm-up for the Asian Cup which kicks off next month. You can follow the game live in English with DZ Football.
