Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi will visit Houssem Aouar in France and explain his project for the Algerian national team to him, he has confirmed.
Speaking in an interview with television channel Ennahar TV, Belmadi said “I will visit Aouar and explain our project” as the North Africans try to get him on board ahead of the French national team.
Various Algerian footballers were born in France, such as Riyad Mahrez and Yacine Brahimi, and now the Desert Foxes want to get the Lyon midfielder in time for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Lyon have produced several French-Algerian footballers, such as the likes of Karim Benzema, Yassine Benzia, Rachid Ghezzal and Nabil Fekir.
Aouar is a talented youngster at just 20 years of age, and has even caught the attention of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola after playing against the Premier League winners in the Champions League group phase.
Algeria have a real lack of options in central midfield and Aouar would be the perfect solution, as well as a huge boost for the future of Les Verts.
Only time will tell whether or not Aouar opts for France and Deschamps or Algeria and Belmadi. Follow Algerian football news in English with DZ Football.
