Championship side Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Algerian forward Mohamed Belkheir, according to French media outlet Foot Mercato.
Belkheir, who currently plays for Brescia in the Italian Serie B, has struggled to make a big impact since moving from giants Inter Milan in the summer. He had been at the San Siro since August 2016 prior to his departure.
Dean Smith performed a similar bit of transfer business in the summer when he was manager of Brentford, signing Algerian winger Said Benrahma from Ligue 2 in France who now has the second most assists in the Championship.
The 20-year-old is also of interest to several other clubs, such as Caen, Amiens, Parma and Strasbourg so his services are being heavily sought after across the continent.
Belkheir has experience playing in the UEFA Youth League with Inter, and has also played at youth level for the Algerian national team.
Aston Villa have never had an Algerian footballer before, but if they can complete a deal for Belkheir then that will change. He has yet to make a league appearance this season however.
His deal with Brescia expires in the summer of 2021. Follow all the Algerian football transfers in English with DZ Football. this January
