Lyon starlet and Man City target Houssem Aouar will play for the Algerian national team, according to Observ Algerie.
The Lyon midfielder, who was born in France, has reportedly opted for the Desert Foxes after successful talks with manager Djamel Belmadi.
Belmadi is said to have made the 20-year-old a top priority and flew to France to have talks with the youngster, which are deemed to have been positive according to the report.
Several French born footballers have represented Algeria in recent years, such as Riyad Mahrez and Yacine Brahimi, and it looks like Aouar will be joining that list.
Aouar has impressed Man City manager Pep Guardiola this season, after facing the Premier League winners in the Champions League home and away.
It would come as a huge boost to Algeria and their quest for glory at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in the summer. Aouar, if officially unveiled as an Algeria player, would be available for selection against Gambia and Tunisia.
He would be competing with the likes of Nabil Bentaleb and Saphir Taider in central midfield. We still await official confirmation from the Algerian football association. Follow all the Algerian football news in English with DZ Football.
