Algerian striker Islam Slimani is close to joining La Liga side Real Betis on loan, according to Italian media outlet Di Marzio.
The 30-year-old, who is currently on loan at Fenerbahce from Premier League side Leicester City, has scored just one league goal all season leaving the Istanbul side in a relegation battle.
Several clubs have been linked with the forward, such as Sevilla, Sporting, Aston Villa and Celtic, with Slimani unwanted by the fans at Fenerbahce.
Current Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi may not take the forward to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, unless he has regular playing time from now until the summer with regular goal scoring form.
Real Betis are in the last 32 of the Europa League, and currently have two other Algerians in the form of Aissa Mandi and Ryad Boudebouz. Slimani is renowned for his heading ability, making him one of the best in the air in world football.
He will be also looking to help the Andalusian side finish in the top six in the league table. Slimani went on loan to Newcastle in January last year but failed to score a goal under Rafa Benitez. Follow the Algerian football transfers live on our deadline day blog.
