Islam Slimani is refusing to leave Fenerbahce in a swift turn of events, according to Turkish media outlet Hurriyet.
The Algerian striker has been in talks with Real Betis over a loan move, however his agents have told clubs that Slimani wants to stay in Turkey and does not want to leave.
This could open the door for fellow Turkish side Basaksehir to jump in which would keep the forward in Istanbul, in a potential swap deal with Emmanuel Adebayor. Slimani has just one goal all season for the club in the Turkish Super Lig.
Several clubs have been linked with the forward, such as Sevilla, Sporting, Aston Villa and Celtic, with Slimani unwanted by the fans at Fenerbahce. They have been in a relegation battle all season.
Current Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi may not take the forward to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, unless he has regular playing time from now until the summer with regular goal scoring form.
He is still a Leicester City player at the moment which could complicate things even further. Time is running out for Slimani to save his club career. Follow all the Algerian football transfers in English on deadline day with our live blog.
