Algeria faced Tunisia at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida tonight, and beat them 1-0 thanks to a penalty scored by Baghdad Bounedjah in the 70th minute. Dean Ammi has the full report.
Victor Lekhal, who was making his debut for the Algerian national team, was forced off with an injury after just 14 minutes which was sad to see. Mehdi Abeid replaced him early on.
It took 30 minutes for the first real chance of the game. Man City winger RIyad Mahrez with a shot on his right foot that rolled narrowly wide of the far corner of the Tunisia goal.
Bounedjah then received a yellow card for diving from the Moroccan referee, which looked a very harsh decision.
But the breakthrough came in the 70th minute. Riyad Mahrez was tripped in the penalty area, and Baghdad Bounedjah smashed home the penalty for his 9th goal in 21 matches for the Desert Foxes.
Mehdi Abeid, who came on in the first half, was forced off in the second half with an injury. Adam Ounas and Mohamed Benkhemassa came on as subs. Alexandre Oukidja kept a clean sheet in his first game for Algeria.
Algeria’s next games will be in June for a further two international friendlies. They remain unbeaten after 35 games played in Blida.
