La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have made Algerian international Aissa Mandi their priority this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The 27-year-old, who was linked with a move to Arsenal in January, has one of the highest passing accuracy rates in the whole of La Liga this campaign. He has been playing in a three at the back system as a central defender, however he can also fill in at right-back.
Mandi has a €30million release clause in his contract with Real Betis. Atletico are losing key defenders Lucas Hernandez and Diego Godin in the summer, and the Algerian could be their replacement.
Betis featured in this season’s UEFA Europa League, where they reached the last 32. Mandi has been at the club since signing from Reims in France back in 2016.
Simeone’s side are currently second in La Liga, which would mean Mandi would taste UEFA Champions League football for the first time next season if he was to make the move from Seville to Madrid.
Mandi already knows the Spanish league well enough to perform well in it. Atletico Madrid are expected to come in with an offer in the next few weeks or so. Follow all the Algerian football transfers in English with DZ Football.
