Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas are in talks to sign Algerian international midfielder Nabil Bentaleb from German side Schalke 04, according to Turkish media outlet Sabah. Bentaleb has eight goals and one assist in 33 games this season in all competitions.
Bentaleb is currently training with the Schalke U23s for disciplinary reasons, despite scoring twice in the last 16 of the Champions League against Manchester City. He has five goals in 35 games for Algeria, whilst Schalke are 14th in the league standings.
Besiktas have reportedly already opened negotiations with Bentaleb, which were said to have been positive. Several Algerians have moved to Istanbul in recent years. Sofiane Feghouli plays for Galatasaray, whilst Fenerbahce have Yassine Benzia and Islam Slimani in their ranks.
He has scored more goals in the Bundesliga than Christian Pulisic, but Bentaleb was not in the recent Algeria squad to face Gambia and Tunisia, and will need to get back into the Schalke team in order to impress national team manager Djamel Belmadi with the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations coming up in the summer.
The 24-year-old joined Schalke from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur back in 2016 on loan, and then signed permanently in 2017. Follow all the Algerian football transfers in English with DZ Football.
