Why Algeria’s AFCON group offers perfect balance

Algeria have been drawn with Senegal, Kenya and Tanzania in their group for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The Desert Foxes will be based in Cairo for the group phase. I think the group is perfect for the North African nation, and here is why.

The group gives Algeria the perfect balance of fixtures which will prepare Djamel Belmadi’s for the bigger tests to come later in the competition.

A game against Kenya will see how Algeria can deal with the pressure of being expected to beat an opponent that may seem easy on paper but become very difficult to break down in real life. Kenya qualified with the best defence in the whole of AFCON 2019 qualifying.

A game against Senegal allows Algeria to face one of, if not the best team at AFCON 2019 in Senegal and we will see just how good Algeria are and how they can compete with the top team on the continent.

A game against Tanzania should allow the team to boost their confidence and fill their boots with goals. Algeria have scored 11 goals in their last two matches against them. And so the countdown to the competition begins. A nation with secret hope.
