It has been a roller-coaster ride since Riyad Mahrez signed for Man City and became their record purchase from Leicester for £60million.
Let’s rewind to the beginning. It all started when he ended a pre-season friendly on crutches in the USA, but a swift recovery was made and the Algerian made his first competitive start for the club at Wembley on August 5th 2019 against Chelsea in the Community Shield.
After winning silverware in his first game under Pep Guardiola, it was an up and down season for the Algerian.
Another pivotal day at Wembley. Following the awful events with the helicopter crash at his former club Leicester, Mahrez scored the winner away to Tottenham and dedicated the goal to Vichai.
But he has enjoyed further successes. A League Cup triumph and a second Premier League title have made it all worthwhile as the right winger closes in on a domestic quadruple with the champions.
And how fitting that the campaign will end where it all began. An FA Cup final at Wembley against Watford. Mahrez will have made 44 appearances in total should he feature in the game. Then all roads lead to Algeria and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations this summer.
