Premier League side Newcastle United are interested in French-Algerian youngster Mehdi Zerkane, according to L’Equipe. He was born in France to an Algerian father and a Moroccan mother.
The 19-year-old, who did not make a single appearance for the Monaco first team this season, is currently at Monaco B. However, he will be out of contract next month and therefore available to sign on a free transfer if the French side choose to release him and not tie him down to a new deal.
Newcastle Utd have had two Algerian internationals in recent history, in the form of central midfielder Mehdi Abeid and striker Islam Slimani. Zerkane is a tricky winger who mainly plays on the right side of a front three.
Zerkane has two goals and one assist in six games this season in the 2018/19 UEFA Youth League, where he has shown some star potential with the Monaco youth. The likes of Kylian Mbappe blossomed from the same setup a few years ago.
There are reportedly other clubs in France who are also interested in signing the player who turns 20 years of age next month. Follow all of the Algerian football transfers in English this summer with DZ Football.
