Egypt ready for biggest show on earth

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations is set to get underway on Friday 21st June, with Egypt taking on Zimbabwe in the first game of the competition. AFCON 2019 lasts until July 19th when the final will take place in Cairo.

Led by Mohamed Salah as well as hosting the tournament, Egypt are no doubt the favourites for the competition. They are closely followed by Senegal, who are looking to win AFCON for the first time with fellow Liverpool winger Sadio Mane in their ranks.

Algeria have never won a football match in Egypt and will have to change that very quickly if they want to succeed. Burundi, Madagascar and Mauritania are all making their debuts in the newly expanded tournament to 24 teams. The competition is also in the summer for the first time.

Cameroon are the holders and they are now led by legend of the game Clarence Seedorf with Patrick Kluivert as assistant. There are six groups of four teams, with the best 16 sides making it through to the knockout stages.

Dean Ammi and the team will keep you up to date with all the coverage. You can follow AFCON 2019 in English wherever you are in the world with DZ Football.
