Algeria have won Group C at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after beating favourites Senegal at the 30th June Stadium in Cairo 1-0 thanks to a goal from Youcef Belaili.
The Desert Foxes have six points from two games and have officially won their group, as well as keeping two clean sheets. Senegal remain on three points, as do Kenya, whilst Tanzania have officially been eliminated and come last.
Youcef Belaili scored with a stinging strike after good play from Riyad Mahrez and Sofiane Feghouli to set him up. That is now two goals and two assists in the Esperance winger’s last four games for Algeria.
It is the first time since 1990 that Algeria have won their group at a major tournament, which is also the last year that they lifted the trophy so the signs are good for Les Verts.
Youcef Atal and Djamel Benlamri both received yellow cards in the game and will have to be careful now to avoid suspensions in the further rounds. Next up for Algeria is a game against Tanzania.
The North Africans will play a third place team in the last 16 of the competition. Follow the Algerian national team in English at AFCON 2019 with DZ Football.
