Algeria in talks with Italy for 2020 friendly

Algeria are in talks with Italy over a potential international friendly to take place next year in 2020, DZ Football understands. Roberto Mancini currently manages the 2006 World Cup winners.

Djamel Belmadi’s side have an international slot available in March 2020 as they only have one scheduled game which is a FIFA World Cup qualifier for Qatar 2022.

The Algerian national team are keen on preparing and making the most of their time and are willing to face tougher opponents from outside of Africa. However, a long trip in the World Cup qualifier could rule out the proposition of a big friendly.

Algeria recently faced South American side Colombia in Lille where they won 3-0 thanks to goals from Baghdad Bounedjah and Riyad Mahrez. The Stade Pierre Mauroy was sold out.

Italy had an outstanding record in qualifying for UEFA Euro 2020 winning ten games out of ten. FAF president Zetchi confirmed earlier today that talks with Italy had begun and that any friendly opponent will depend on the logistics and strength of the opposition decided by the  CAF World Cup qualifying draw.

Algeria are currently 18 games unbeaten and did not lose a match in 2019. Follow all the Algerian football news in English with DZ Football.
