Algerian winger Youcef Belaili is a target for French side Marseille in the January transfer window next month, DZ Football understands.
The African champion, who recently scored in both of Algeria’s opening two AFCON 2021 qualifiers in the last international break, has struggled to settle at Al Ahli after joining from Esperance in the summer.
Belaili has yet to score for the Saudi Arabian side and has recorded just one assist in six appearances with them. The 27-year-old is also on the shortlist for 2019 CAF African Player of the Year, as well as the Africa-based award.
Marseille are flying high in Ligue 1 this season in second place behind the reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain under Andre Villas-Boas. Various Algerian players have made the move to clubs in Qatar and Saudi Arabia in recent years due to high financial incentives.
Midfielder Maxime Lopez, who has an Algerian mother, also currently plays for Marseille and is eligible to play for the Algerian national team if he chooses to do so.
Djamel Belmadi has made it clear that players must be playing regularly for their clubs in order to be considered for the national team. Follow all the Algerian football news in English with DZ Football.
