Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb is set to sign for Newcastle United; one of the biggest sides in English football. But what can he bring to the table on Tyneside?
The 25-year-old will bring aggression to the Newcastle midfield. Yes, he may receive several yellow cards in a season, but his tactical fouls will break down several attacks. He will do the dirty work. Perhaps too dirty though; Bentaleb’s attitude has been questioned at times that even saw him sent to the Schalke U23s on two occasions last season.
As well as winning multiple caps at international level for Algeria, Bentaleb has played over 50 games for Tottenham giving him the experience needed at English football. Although he needs to get back to full fitness quickly, Bentaleb is a ready-made player for the Premier League. He will slot into the midfield with ease, and often plays with another defensive midfielder alongside him as he did at Spurs.
Bentaleb scored twice against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League last season. He has an immense record from the penalty spot that is among Europe’s best. But he can score from outside the box too. We have seen long range efforts hit the back of the net from Bentaleb on many occasions.
